I just had a phone call with my aunt. We talked about how everyone has their own area of expertise and how you can always benefit from others and learn new things.
But then I also said that it's sometimes very tiring to have to explain myself over and over again. Explain why fruit isn't unhealthy and carbohydrates aren't the devil. Why fats are essential for our bodies and why protein isn't always the ultimate solution for everyone.
In my consultations, I repeatedly encounter people who have been severely affected by diets. Their experiences have left them fearful of various foods and they hardly dare to eat a (normally) completely safe meal. They're afraid of bananas, melons, grapes, pasta, bread, sweets, fatty foods, etc. They've already tried various treatments, powders, diets, and shakes. Yes, they've had some success, but always only in the short term! Which is exactly why they end up with me. These crash diets promise amazing results, utopian weight loss, and advertise with false promises. Or let's put it this way: maybe not false, but they leave out a huge amount of information!
Namely:
- That the weight lost is mainly water and muscle mass and not fat
- That your metabolism can suffer permanent damage
- That you will initially feel fit and capable, but that will change immediately
- That you cannot bridge your whole life with these products
- That these products are also available at a much lower price and can also be supplied naturally
- That you will have problems with digestion, which can bother you a lot
- That you may have deficiencies
- That you may have sleep problems and mood swings
- That you will immediately gain weight again as soon as you stop
- That you hardly learn anything about a healthy diet during this time and therefore later on you do not know what is important
- That you are looked after by people who have no training and perhaps even less knowledge than you, but are simply good salespeople
- That they are especially interested in your before and after picture
- That they don't care about your long-term health
- That they shamelessly exploit your hopelessness and despair to make money
People are lazy, sometimes desperate, hopeless and at a loss. In this moment they can grab you. No matter what they say, no matter how absurd it sounds, people often believe them. Because anyone who wants to make drastic changes also expects drastic measures. So the more prohibitions, the more realistic it usually sounds. But we don't want any effort. Especially in today's stressful times, we don't have the energy to learn about nutrients, calories, biochemistry or physiology. If someone tells us exactly when we should eat something, when we shouldn't, and when we should take which powder so that we don't have to put in the effort to prepare a meal, then that sounds nice. We don't want to waste any time. No effort. No hurdles. We want results and fast!
But now I'll tell you something, unfortunately things are completely different for me. I'm happy to help you. But honestly and realistically. I don't have to prove anything to myself, and I don't have to prove anything to you either. I want to help you, but for the long term. I want you to be healthy, productive, happy, and fit. And not just for 8 weeks. I want you to be that way FOREVER. I want you to know what you're eating, why, and what effect it has on your body. I want you to know your body type, and understand why some things are good for you and others not. I want you to no longer be unsettled at lunch in the cafeteria when someone talks about a new diet, when someone has lost weight by fasting, or when someone looks critically at your plate and tells you fairy tales about how bad this food is (it was in Bunte and Gala, so it must be true!). I want you to be able to enjoy yourself, go to restaurants, invite friends over, and eat as you please. I want you to be free from cravings and self-reproach.
But you have to understand one thing: this won't happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and determination. You have to be willing to learn, accept change, and face your worries and fears. But I can promise you one thing: you will be healthy. In body and mind, forever. And this effort is worth it every time! Stop with these crash diets, face the truth, don't be lazy, listen and look, and take care of yourself and your body. ❤️
