Autumn and soon winter are here and with them the
increasing cold❄️🍁
Wet or icy cold often deters people from going outside or even exercising. However, exercise is especially important during the colder months of the year. It helps keep you physically fit and hardens the body against illness. Many people think they have to dress extra warmly if they want to exercise outdoors in the winter.
However, it's more about the choice of clothing. I've put together a few tips on what to look out for.
Multiple layers:
The onion principle is, and this is no secret, a good old-fashioned way of wearing several layers of clothing. The air pockets between the layers act as insulation. This principle keeps you warm not only in everyday life but also during sports. However, you should make sure that the layers you choose are comfortable and don't restrict your freedom of movement.
Functional underwear:
Every winter sports enthusiast should wear functional underwear. This consists of
breathable microfiber. It has the advantage of wicking away the sweat that
Sport is created, not absorbed, but passed on to the upper layers of clothing.
Upper body clothing:
The clothing layers on the upper body should ideally also be made of
Synthetic fiber material and be breathable. For example, fleece is a light
A highly comfortable material that's ideal for shirts, vests, or lightweight jackets. Comfort is generally very important for outdoor sports. Only those who feel comfortable in their clothing will feel like moving.
The same applies to the outer layer, the jacket. This should be insulating, but
still be able to wick away the moisture generated during sports
This is very important in case of rain or snowfall. Overall, it is
useful if the upper body clothing reaches over the buttocks.
Sports shoes:
Proper, well-fitting footwear is a must for every outdoor athlete.
Your feet should also be kept warm. Thick sports socks,
Insulating soles and waterproofing sprays definitely help here.
Head and hands:
Finally, one of the most important things that many people often forget or
On average, we lose 50% of our body heat during the
Head. A suitable sports cap is very important! Good gloves are also a good idea, as hands quickly start to get cold.
Important: Do not stand around after training. Put on a warm jacket and
drink something warm like tea.
Extra tip:
Add 10 degrees Celsius to the outside temperature and dress accordingly. For example, it's 12 degrees Celsius + 10 degrees Celsius outside = 22 degrees Celsius. At 22 degrees Celsius, you might wear 3/4-length pants and a shirt. That would be ideal for exercise at 12 degrees Celsius. Of course, don't forget your jacket for before and after training ;)
So conclusion: there is no bad weather, just the wrong clothing 😉
