Lately I have often received messages with the following question:

"I've been trying to lose weight for X weeks but nothing's happening."

“I train so hard and see no success”

“I try so hard but my weight just doesn’t change.”

Now, I have to say up front that I can't judge a situation if I haven't consulted a person before. Often, however, a few errors in thinking or knowledge have crept in, and so I bet you that a few mistakes are made.

1. Weight doesn't determine success or failure. Many women define themselves by their weight and aren't aware that many factors can play a role, such as training hard the day before, which resulted in water retention, eating a lot of salt, having a different scale or body, not exercising at the same time, or eating more volume the day before. Besides, since muscle simply weighs more than fat, it's better to be heavier but more defined and toned, right?

2. You eat too little. Perhaps a diet drastically reduces your calories and hopes for a change in a few days, but unfortunately that's not the case. You won't achieve your dream figure just by eating little, especially if you want a toned body. Your body needs energy, especially after exercising, so give it up.

3. You're completely exhausted and your body doesn't need much rest. I know it's very motivating when you set yourself a goal and say, ideally, you're exercising every day and eating healthily. But your body also needs a break sometimes. Overtraining can happen very quickly, and your body needs a long time to recover. Start by changing one or two habits and proceed step by step. Consistency always pays off.

4. You're too impatient. In my opinion, I'm going to get rid of excess fat quickly. I'll assume you gained 10 kg in three years. But now, of course, you'll lose it again in three months. Unfortunately, I have to admit that this will rarely work in the long term. It takes a long time for the fat to settle, so I'll have to get back on track with the process.

5. You don't have the right path to your goal. In my opinion, a diet isn't the right decision in 99% of cases. A change to a balanced and healthy life probably makes sense. Diets are quick and easy, while changes are lifelong, so always ask yourself: Do I want to be slim/fit/toned for 1-2 months or for the rest of my life? And choose your path accordingly. Carbohydrate diets are no use; you can't maintain them your whole life anyway.

6. Do a lot of endurance sports. Yes, cardio is good for your cardiovascular system and, in nature, a great hair-cleanser, but if your goal is toning, cardio alone unfortunately won't get you there. Try a mix of strength training, interval training, bodyweight training, and endurance. See if it's fun, but I want to do it long-term.

7. You're tracking wrong. Often, many mistakes occur when tracking calories. Have you counted the salad dressing, seeds on the salad, the cooking fat, and the snacks from the drawer? Even if many foods are considered healthy, the quantity always makes the difference! A tablespoon of oil, for example, has 120 kcal. Was that consciously intended? Did you add 2 tablespoons of healthy coconut oil to your salad? So, if you're tracking, then you're doing it correctly!

9. You're too clean. Don't cross out all foods you like from your diet. Eating should always be a pleasure, not a compulsion. The more you are forbidden to eat, the more likely you are to binge eat and become frustrated. It's better to eat a little something sweet every day than a whole bar of chocolate with a family cup of Ben & Jerry's on Sunday. And I bet you'll feel better after the next attack, because you'll have such bad feelings that you can only make the wrong decisions anyway. Either you overeat or you'll start to starve.

10. You've already reached your ideal weight. Everyone has a comfortable weight. Let me take myself as an example. I've had a weight for years, and I can eat cakes, cookies, etc. without a care in the world. But if I were to lose 2 kg on the scales, that would be the biggest struggle EVER. I would have to give up so much and would never be able to eat so carefree. That's why you always have to ask yourself, does the weight on the scales really have to go, or would it be enough if your body were a bit firmer?

I hope these reasons will help you if you find yourself in the same situation.
