The search for effective weight loss methods has led to a variety of innovative approaches in recent years. One of these is the weight loss injection Ozempic, known medically as semaglutide. As a nutritionist, I take a critical view of this topic and would like to shed more light on the advantages and disadvantages of this injection.

Advantages of Ozempic:

  1. Appetite-suppressing effect: Ozempic belongs to a group of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. These substances can increase the feeling of fullness and thus help people eat less.
  2. Blood sugar-lowering properties: Ozempic was originally developed for the treatment of diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes who are overweight can use the injection not only to better control their blood sugar levels but also to lose weight.
  3. Study results: There are studies that indicate promising results. People who used Ozempic showed significant weight reductions compared to placebo groups.

Disadvantages of Ozempic:

  1. Side effects: Every medication has potential side effects. Ozempic can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These symptoms can be uncomfortable for some people and affect their quality of life.
  2. Long-term effects unknown: The long-term effects of Ozempic on the human body have not yet been sufficiently researched. It remains to be seen how safe and sustainable its use is over a longer period of time.
  3. Criticism of the drug approach: Some nutrition experts argue that focusing on medications for weight loss neglects the real core of the problem, namely lifestyle habits. Long-term success often requires sustainable changes in diet and exercise.

Conclusion: The Ozempic injection undoubtedly offers promise in terms of weight loss. However, it shouldn't be viewed as a standalone solution. As a nutritionist, I recommend that any form of weight loss focus on long-term, healthy lifestyle changes. Ozempic may be an option, but it should be considered part of a comprehensive approach that includes diet, exercise, and behavioral changes. Unfortunately, I've witnessed many cases where these aspects weren't taken into account. Unfortunately, the success disappeared just as quickly after discontinuing the injection.

So if you're in this situation and wondering whether you should try this diet, please carefully weigh the pros and cons for yourself. I also want to point out that, unfortunately, I've experienced a few cases where the injection had no effect, so it's no guarantee of success.
